Executive Functioning
The frontal lobe is the part of the brain responsible for executive functioning, which includes planning, organization, self-monitoring, working memory, cognitive flexibility, and prioritizing. This area of our brains is not fully developed until our mid-20s, yet school demands a high level of executive functioning in order to achieve high grades. Lower executive functioning skills affect the process of learning, perception of self capabilities, social/emotional development, and behaviors such as initiation and follow through.
